One thing I've hesitated to post is what we'd like to see happen before we go. It goes like this: 1). Mon becomes a US citizen.(She does not have to give up Swedish citizenship) 2.) I'm approved for Swedish permanent residency. 3.) We sell the house.
So these are 3 pretty big things. It makes
sense that Mon becomes a citizen before we go because once she's out of the country for more than a year she loses her green card. Plus a minimum requirement of becoming a citizen is five years continuous residency. At this point she's at seven. If we leave, she'll have to start the whole process over again. We've been told it takes up to a year to become a citizen once you apply, but no promises on the timing.

oved for Swedish residency. It's basically getting the okay to live with my family in Sweden from their government. The good news is that we just returned from Chicago after visiting the Swedish consulate. My interview went very well and the consulate indicated she would recommend permanent residency for me but we must wait a couple months so the New York embassy can write off on it and stamp my passport. The approval will also give me the okay to work over there.
The house. Well, they say spring is the
best time to sell. We've focused our energies on being ready to put it on the market by Easter. With the housing market the way it is, hopefully we'll get in the $ neighborhood of what we're asking in the time we'd like. This could be the biggest variable of all. It's also possible we could have someone sell it for us, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Today we had our first share of the winter in Stockholm, our apartment is quite cold. In our blog there will be some pictures from the snow.
