lena willemark

We went to a concert May 10th featuring Lena Willemark. If you have not heard of Lena, she is a folk singer known for singing traditional Swedish songs and I'm not talking about 'dancing queen'. The concert was at the 17th century church where Jake's Christmas concert was last year. The quality of the songs was excellent and presentation interesting.

One song that struck us in particular just happen to be in English. Lena shared a simple South African song that repeated again and again. A missing chapter of the story she didn't share (but we were privy to) was that she learned the song from the orphans at the orphanage in South Africa where she and her husband adopted their daughter. When we thought of that layer it was impacting. But three weeks out from our move back to the States things were starting to tug at us, saying this may be the last time you experience ______ in Sweden for a while. As Lena continued to sing this song it felt a little like she was singing it to us, reminding us not to forget Sweden.

Unfortunately the video cut off, but I think you can get the gist of the song.

Think of me. Forget me not.

Remember me where ever you go.

I am yours and you are mine.

Remember me where ever you fly.
