stampeedle

So we've been catching rhinoceros beetles in the house. We're up to 4 or 5 and still have no idea why. One of the last ones was a female. The rhinoceros beetle is supposedly the strongest creature in the world for it's size, able to lift several hundred times its own weight. They don't however live very long in a sealed peanut butter jar. At least the boys don't. Interestingly, Mon has had the female in a jar for over a week and at night she becomes active and flutters her wings while trying to get to the male right next to her in a neighboring jar, soaking in alcohol. For her effort, me and the boys are going to release her today on the other side of the island. Hopefully we won't find more critters down the road but I'll save the jar just in case.

I hope she didn't leave a trail of bread crumbs or something for her babies to follow back to your house.

Ahhh, we females are a cunning race. Three cheers for the ladies!
