Thursday is St. Lucia Day in Sweden. Click on 
'tomten & pepparkaka boy' for more info. Mon posted about this last year in December. This time the kids get to take part in it for the first time, at their respective schools. Dressing up for Halloween may be something relatively new for kids here, but putting on costumes at Christmas has been around a long time. We'll post more pictures after Lucia.
Honestly, this seemed a little medieval to me when we lived in Ohio. But now that we are on the mid-winter dark side of the moon with so little light, the translation and warmth of the tradition has finally caught up to me. And the boys.

Great! When I looked at the zoom picture of Jake and Sam together up top...it reminded me so much of John and Monika.
By the way...Sam looks like a great gingerbread boy and Jake is a great santa.
